Publications Coordinator

The ASAN Publications Coordinator is in charge of the day-to-day and back-end operations of The Autistic Press (TAP), ASAN’s micropress. The Publications Coordinator serves as production editor for The Autistic Press and will usher completed manuscripts through the publication process, develop and oversee promotional strategies, coordinate all individuals involved in the publication process, and serve as point of contact on all matters pertaining to The Autistic Press.

Publications Coordinator is a volunteer position. ASAN volunteers receive direct supervision and extensive support from ASAN core staff; internships and college credit can be arranged.

We are looking for someone with prior publishing experience who is willing to lend their time and expertise towards the creation of a cross-disability publishing house capable of producing professional-quality materials emphasizing disability community, culture, and pride.

Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours a week (15+ on launch weeks)

Duties:

  • Point of contact for all publications-related matters

  • Coordination with publications committee chair

  • Ushering completed manuscripts to publication

    • Assembly

    • Overseeing & implementing all publication-related workflows & parties

    • Working with printers to bring books to publication

  • Coordinating promotion of publications

    • Developing advertising & promotional strategies

    • Running TAP social media

    • Coordinating promotion with ASAN social media

    • Soliciting & promoting reviews

    • Updating TAP website

 

Skills required:

  • Expertise in

    • Microsoft Word

    • Microsoft Publisher

    • Adobe InDesign

  • Proficiency with

    • WordPress

    • Google Drive

    • Social media

  • Strong written & electronic communication skills
