ACTION ALERT: Health care under fire again – call your Senators now!

You already know how important the Affordable Care Act is for people with disabilities in the US. Over the last year and a half, we’ve contacted you about multiple attacks on the ACA as Congress tried again and again to strip affordable health care from millions of Americans and end protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Every time, you fought back, using all the force of your advocacy to blast Congress with the message that we will not go back to being denied health care — and every time, you won. All those victories are at risk if Judge Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed to the Supreme Court. Once again, it’s time to act: call your Senators today and tell them to vote NO on Kavanaugh’s nomination.

Kavanaugh is gunning for the ACA, and Congress is rushing to confirm his nomination. With so much at stake, every Senator’s vote is vital. No matter what state you live in, your Senators need to hear from you. Let them know the Affordable Care Act is just as important to our community as it was last year, and we’re just as committed to holding them accountable.

Call your Senators and tell them to vote NO on Kavanaugh! You can use our script while calling:

Script for calling your Senator
My name is  [your full name] . I’m a constituent of  Senator [Name] , and I live in  [your town] . I’m calling to ask the Senator to vote NOT to confirm Judge Kavanaugh. A vote for Judge Kavanaugh is a vote to gut the ACA. Putting him on the Supreme Court could take health care away from millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions. People with disabilities in  [your state]  depend on these protections to access lifesaving care — and we’re counting on you to keep Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court. Vote NO!

If you have trouble making phone calls or use AAC, our factsheet gives you strategies you can use to call your Senators. If you want more information about Judge Kavanaugh, including a plain language explainer, check out this resource page.

Once you’ve finished calling, make sure to follow up and email or fax your Senators using the same script. Face-to-face meetings can really make a difference: consider also visiting your Senators’ state offices to let their staff know how Kavanaugh’s confirmation would affect you. You can find lists of your Senators’ state offices on their websites. Here’s the bottom line: if the Senate confirms Kavanaugh, they will be giving him the final say on our rights, our care, and our lives. And because Senate appointments are for life, right now is our only chance to stop it. Now more than ever, your Senators need to hear from you. Call them now, and tell them to vote NO on Kavanaugh’s nomination.
