Many people get confused about autism, and there’s a lot of wrong information about autism out there. It’s important to understand how these ideas happen, how they’re shared, and how they hurt autistic people. Knowing about these ideas makes it easier for us to combat them. That’s why we’re holding “Autism Myths and Misconceptions” on Thursday, April 17 at 4:00pm ET! This panel is a chance for our community to talk about the myths and misconceptions we hear about autism and why it’s important to make sure people know the facts.

Autistic people are everywhere! We are a part of every age group, every race, every culture, every gender, every sexuality and live all over the world. Being autistic means we share traits in common, but we are not all the same. Some of the wrong ideas people have about autism can make it harder for us to get diagnosed and get access to the supports and services we need to live safely and happily in our communities.

In this webinar, we will talk about:

  • How the ways we talk about autism can hurt or help autistic people
  • How some autistic people are left out of people’s ideas about autism
  • Some of the wrong things people believe about autism

And more!

This webinar is open to everyone, but we especially want to invite self-advocates and allies to attend!

Register to join us on Thursday, April 17 at 4-5:30pm ET. The webinar will last around 90 minutes. The webinar will be on Zoom and will have CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation). The webinar will also be shared on Youtube after.

If you have any questions or would like to request any additional accommodations such as ASL interpretation, please email dstrauss@autisticadvocacy.org by Thursday, April 10.
