The Department of Labor is trying to make a bad rule that would make it harder for disabled people to get help finding jobs. We have until July 31st to tell the Department of Labor that we do not want them to make this bad rule. To learn everything you need to know about the rule and how you can take action, read this email and our plain language guide here.
The Department of Labor is trying to make a rule that would change part of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). WIOA is a law about jobs. WIOA makes programs that help people find, train for, and keep good jobs. One important part of WIOA is called WIOA Title I. WIOA Title I is about job programs for people who need help finding jobs. The job programs in WIOA Title I help people figure out what kinds of jobs they would be good at. The job programs also help people learn skills that help them do their jobs.
The Department of Labor is trying to make a rule that would get rid of a different rule in WIOA Title I. This rule was made in 2016. The 2016 rule is about programs who get money from WIOA Title I. The 2016 rule says these programs need to reach out to people who face employment barriers. This means people like:
- people with disabilities,
- people of color,
- people in different age groups,
- and more.
The 2016 rule says WIOA programs must talk with people who face employment barriers. They must teach people about how WIOA Title I can help them. Taking away the 2016 rule is bad. It will hurt people with disabilities.
We need to take action to stop the Department of Labor from making this bad rule. One way to take action is to submit a public comment. A public comment is a way for people to tell the government what they think about an idea for a rule. We have until July 31st to tell the Department of Labor that we do not want them to make this bad rule. To learn how to submit a public comment about this idea for a bad rule, read our plain language guide here. Thank you for taking action to protect services that help disabled people get good jobs!
