The Autistic Self Advocacy Network held an Invitational Summit on Supported Decision-Making and the Transition to the Community on October 18th and October 19th, 2016. From the summit and a series of follow-up interviews, ASAN derived recommendations for how self-advocates, lawyers, parents, government officials, and other stakeholders can use supported decision-making to decrease institutionalization and improve the integration of people with disabilities into the broader community. The follow-up report, “ASAN’s Invitational Summit on Supported Decision-Making and Transition to the Community: Conclusions and Recommendations” provides recommendations for the use of supported decision-making in four aspects of successful community living: Housing, Relationships and Natural Supports, Healthcare, and Long-Term Services and Supports.
